Your Digital Camera Secrets Revealed
Taking pictures with a digital camera is fun and easy, right? Select a subject, set the camera on "P" for professional and press the shutter release. You have your picture. But there are more buttons, nobs and dials on your camera than the shutter release. Do you know what they are and more importantly, what they do?
If You don't, let me introduce you to something that will make it all clear. The Manual. You know, the book, or in some cases the CD, that came in the box. The one that is probibly still in the box. And in perfect condition I'll bet.
I've been a photographer for many years and all of my manuals look like they have been around since Lizards Flew! The engineers who designed and built your camera included functions and controls seen only on professional models just afew years ago. To get the most out of this amazing creation, YOU owe it to yourself to learn how to fully use it.
Some of the functions we will try to cover are
Focus Lock,
Exposure Compensation,
Depth of Field Preview, Flash,
Mode Dial, Multi Selector, White Balance and the Light Meter.
Your particular make or model may have Some, All or More of these functions. Your manual is the place to get the inside scoop on what they are, where they are located and how to use them. I use mine all of the time. You Should Too.
The Digital Camera is a Tool
Just like a computer, cell phone ar a PDA. The more you know about them, the easier they are to use. The more YOU know about the controls, the more creative you can become. So go ahead and move the mode selector dial off of Automatic and experiment! You Will improve as a photographer and your images will reflect this.
Congratulations! You have just taken the first steps in learing how to Make not just Take photographs! Becoming good at anything takes time and practice.
