The Focus Lock Button Creativity Unleashed
The focus lock button is usually combined with the shutter release. When the shutter release is depressed half way and held, the focus will remain locked until the shutter is pressed all of the way. Some camera models may also lock the exposure at the same time, while others have a separate lock button located on the camera body. It is always best to check your owner's manual to see how your particular camera handles these functions.
This Function is Very Useful in many Situations
To make an image more interesting, you may want to put your subject on the left side of the frame. Focus on your subject. Depress the shutter release half way and hold. Re-compose your picture with the subject in the left third of the frame and depress the shutter the rest of the way.
Sometimes when your subject is a pool of water or a pond that has a very reflective surface your image will come out blurred. The reason being the camera's distance ranging beam was reflected off of the surface and was set to infinity. The solution, focus on an object that is about the same distance away as the pond. Depress the shutter release half way, re-compose and shoot. Perfect Image!
Experiment!
Make lots of images. Try different things. Explore your creative side. That's what digital photography is all about.
